Daiichi Suntory Pharma Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: George Nakayama), one of the group companies of Daiichi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Replidyne, Inc. (Headquarters: Louisville, Colorado; President & CEO: Kenneth J. Collins) today announced they have entered into a license agreement for a penem-type antibiotic agent known as faropenem daloxate.
Replidyne has acquired exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and market this agent in the North American countries, USA and Canada . Replidyne plans to start phase III trials for this agent in the U.S. within this year.
Reference: Faropenem daloxate is a prodrug of Faropenem sodium, the first oral penem-type antibiotic launched in 1997 in Japan (marketed by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. with trade name Farom). It is orally active and well absorbed through the gastro-intestinal tract, and transformed into Faropenem. It is effective against various infections, including the problematic antibiotic-resistant bacteria, PRSP (penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae).
